All three telcos are now investing in adapting their backend systems to comply with Syniverse’s centralised database. According to IDA, it is also working together with the telcos on the transition arrangements.

The Business Times reported that the major telcos - SingTel, StarHub and M1 - are jostling for exclusive rights to sell Apple's iPhone, expected to launch in 2008. The article noted that the outcome of the negotiations is significant given that the IDA will be implementing true number portability in the second quarter of 2008 which allows consumers to easily retain their mobile numbers when switching operators.
